Take a walk on the wild side with zebra print fabric

By Debbiedoo's Team Published: May 29, 2013 · Modified: May 26, 2025

Good morning everyone!

It is once again my turn to share with all Debbie’s faithful readers.

Let’s take a walk on the wild side with some Zebra print fabric.

stool makeover

First….

I can’t believe May is almost over! I was just telling my kids a few days ago that we are only six months away from our annual Christmas Vacation movie night. They were a little more receptive than I was. Ha!

Today I’m showing you a quick makeover of a stool I had on hand.

It all started when I saw this zebra print fabric…

Since my sewing skills are virtually non-existent, my only option was to reupholster something. It was a little spendy at $16.99 a yard but the texture was worth it!

Not only that, we all know it doesn’t even take a yard to reupholster a chair or stool so in the end….mere pennies.

By the way, have you ever been photo-bombed by a beagle? It is daily routine around here…

The stool started out as a worn down black. It hadn’t been sealed by the person who painted it previously so every smudge or mark appeared on the finish at the slightest touch.

With the animal print, a black base is an easy go-to color choice.

My pick for this piece was CeCe Caldwell’s Vermont Slate.

It is a gorgeous slate/stone gray that darkens with wax.

Here is a quick peek at the filthy cushion that graced the top at one time.

Definitely time for a makeover, right??!!

I removed the three layers of previous coverings, pulled out all the old staples and started over – after adding another layer of new batting before I did anything else. Oh, and make sure you pay attention to your corners and then thank your mother for teaching you how to properly make a bed all those years ago.

Once it was done, it decided to join the party…

Do any of you like stools as much as I do? I’m now on the hunt for the perfect milking stool.

Have a wonderful start to June! I hope it brings sunny weather and a slower pace.

Well deserved by all.

I hope to see you over at my place soon – perhaps check out a few of my posts since we saw each other last, such as my antique organizing bin, recent desk makeover, a deconstructed chair and a DIY on how to turn a picture frame into a vintage mirror using nothing but paint!

Be inspired,

I scatter small stools all over the house. They not only add foot comfort but also add color to an empty corner or small space such as a stairway landing. Love your new zebra print

I love a little animal print thrown in the mix.

And I know what you mean, I was just realizing the other day how we’re just about six months away from holiday season. This year is flying by…..that’s okay as long as it slows down during the summer. 🙂
