Thrifty makeovers take 2

By 16 Comments

This is our second edition of Thrifty finds.

Our first series was a lot of fun and we decided this would be a monthly event on our blogs.

Thrift-Store-Decor-Team

Here was the first edition my Good will rooster caddy.

Today, I am sharing Thrifty makeovers take 2.

It’s definitely that time of year that I start going haywire with spray paint.  Not necessarily always a good thing!

I tend to be messy and have been known a time or two to wreak havoc around here.

I must say though, I am better than I used to be and try to be a bit more cautious.

vintage spring

I am in the midst of sprucing up the front porch for Spring and wanted a color pop statement piece.

This old chair was perfect for what I had in mind.

Thrifty chair makeover for Spring 001This old chair came with a vintage table I bought to craft on.  It was a table and two chairs.  I don’t need two chairs at my craft table unless Mike starts jumping in this craft thing, which I highly doubt.  He will help with some input and even arrange an occasional vignette as I shared a few weeks ago on the Men tell all series.  But craft with me, NO way, that’s drawing the line.

How to stencil on a chairFirst I spray-painted the chair with a pretty Aqua color by Rust-oleum.  It didn’t even take the whole can.  I was initially tending on NOT doing the seat but decided I would just go for it. It was more trouble than it was worth to either remove the seat or try to cover it as shown in my before picture.

Once I spray painted the entire seat I let it dry for a few hours and used the pretty paisley stencil that I also used on my Ikea stool.

I used a candy apple red craft paint by folk art for the seat.  I let that dry and lightly distressed the chair.

Happy Spring.  I still need to work on the other side of the porch and will share when that is complete. I did share my Pop of Spring in a can the other day just in case you missed those.   Truthfully, I probably won’t work on that side until after the Pollen is gone.  It gets an absolute mess out there.  UGH, I despise that part of the season.

Rustoleum just came out with a new aqua too, its their high gloss enamel in the white cans. Pretty aqua shade. Have you seen it yet in your area?

What a pretty color and I love stenciling. Since I can’t even draw a stick figure I have a ton of stencils! Great Makeover!

Hi Debbie … your porch looks lovely. The wall hanging with the bars gets my attention. Love the relaxed wreath of Spring blooms on it. The little chair is just so perfect to show off a pretty plant. Stenciling was a great idea.
Enjoy your beautiful weather. Nice here too.

    Hi Debbie
I love this and have a dark corner in my garden where this idea would work perfectly to really brighten it up. Can you tell me what the frame for the wall hanging is from please.

    Thank you!
