Kitchen remodel Part 3 final

By 41 Comments

Hi there!~ Well the mini kitchen remodel is finally finished.

If you missed Part 1 and Part 2 you can catch up first:)

I shared with you the custom hood we had made from a local woodworker in our area. We couldn’t have done it as well, nor been able to obtain the reclaimed wood as easily as he had access to. Plus the fact, he was quite reasonable. The two tin roosters are a new addition.

They were both a whopping 4.50 ish on Hobby Lobby HERE.

They are so cute and light weight. I knew I wanted one on top of the hood and then one on the back splash.

And last but no least is the granite kitchen island extension. Extending the island actually made the kitchen look larger.  This is indeed the way I have wanted our kitchen to be for the past 11 years. I am so happy finally my husband agreed that it could be done. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the other island and the granite was beautiful. However, I had a hard time getting in and out of the dishwasher because of where the bar stools were. It was more of an annoyance each time. Plus, we have plenty of space and it even makes the kitchen look larger. Now I have an open space, and a nice long kitchen island I always wanted. Mike absolutely loves it himself. He gave me free reign in here on every little detail. That is not typical Mike. He has opinions and lets me know. I have always been respectful of that.

(Close up of granite)

Although, the island does not “match” our existing granite counter tops as you can clearly see nothing in here matches. I don’t care for that matchy-matchy look. As long as it compliments one another I like the variations of tones and woods mixed together. Some may disagree, and that’s fine. It’s your home do with what you love to it.

I found the wood legs on line and I stained those. Our wood worker actually installed them and added the trim and drilled the nails down into the floor accordingly. These babies aren’t moving!

Yesterday morning Mike and I sat there and had coffee together. It was actually quite cozy to sit across from one another.  As far as my budget came in, I went slightly over. I added the kitchen shelves to the windows, bought the new rooster signs, and paid a little more for the granite than I first anticipated. But all in all I think we did quite well.

If you are new here, welcome! I am also very excited to share my new stencil line with you. I also want to mention you can find me these days over at Home Pressure cooking where I have been busy cooking and creating new goods to use with our pressure cookers.

I LOVE your kitchen, Debbie. You truly are my “kitchen hero!” What I admire most are those beautiful wood cabinets! Such a contrast to the constant white kitchens I most often see. While those are often gorgeous, I love the warmth of the wood. Thanks for sharing your latest project.

Thank you Judy so much. Those we did not touch. They are the same as they have been. To me they are timeless and warm.

Debbie, unrelated question. Would your Rit Dye and Martha glaze work on furniture as nice as the coastal vase?

Yes I do believe it would work great! The glaze is hard to find now but you can use any glaze. Rit dye works great on un treated wood.

Your addition to the island looks great! I am on my sixth week of kitchen revamp. Completely gutted. Yikes, I’m getting edgy and cranky to get it finished. Counters go in the end of the week. I love how bright your kitchen is. Unfortunately I live in a condo, no windows in the kitchen area but lots lighting. I miss my sunny kitchen in my previous home.

I agree with you, as long the pieces compliment each other, there’s no need for the ‘matchy-matchy’. I love how the kitchen looks. So beautiful!

I’m loving your kitchen. Hubby and I have been remodeling our kitchen and for a budget of only $2,000. So far we are under budget as we got a sweet deal on cabinets. At long last I’m getting the kitchen I’ve always wanted. And part of my decor will have some of your stencils. And I see homemade Christmas gifts going on this year using your stencils. Thank you for the inspiration.

Your kitchen improvements are very nice. I love how the island turned out. I am like you…just not into the white movement. I love my wood cabinets and yours too. I think one day many of these girls are going to wish they hadn’t painted.
Anyway great job, and kudos for your bargain price hunting.
