Rusty outdoor garden stand makeover with Beyond Paint

I admit, I was skeptical at first while in the process of doing this project. This outdoor wrought iron stand was rusty and in bad shape. Considering it was a curbside find to begin with I decided not to sweat it and just go with it.

Today I am sharing a rusty outdoor garden stand makeover with Beyond Paint.

I have used Beyond paint in the past on these kitchen bar stools. It was a few years back. I do recall though I enjoyed working with this paint. It had zero odor that I could detect with my toucan nose.

Believe it or not, I didn’t even have to strip or sand this garden stand. That is the beauty of Beyond Paint.

The color choice is a pretty Poppy color.

Beyond Paint is All-In-One! Bonds to virtually any surface (e.g., wood, granite, tile, plastic, metal, glass, laminate, varnish, polyurethane, linoleum and thermofoil) . No sanding, stripping or priming required! Beyond Paint is water-based with extremely low VOCs making it safe for family members, pets and the environment. It’s also ultra-durable and designed to resist scratching and fading. The paint even has a sealer in it and is UV resistant. No mixing required.

This is where my skepticism started setting in. How is paint really going to cover this mess? I know what it claims to do, but this rack is in rough shape. After just two coats the coverage was beautiful! I was thrilled not only with the coverage, but with the ease of use. I barely broke a sweat. In fact, I didn’t break one at all. It was one of those paint projects I really enjoyed doing.

In no time at the paint was dry ( 3 hours)  and I was able to put my accessories on, stand back, admire and enjoy my little time and ease of this makeover.

As you may be able to tell I left some parts in the original colors. I actually liked the way it looked two toned and coordinated with my garden accessories. I love color as you know, and mixing and matching I am no stranger to.

Thanks Deb, love the make over. It has inspired me to go to ace and get some of that paint for the same type of project.

WOW, I love how your stand turned out. The color (colors!) look wonderful. I’ve never heard of this paint but am going to look for it. I have a LARGE metal urn outside; it’s badly in need of a re-do. I’ve been skeptical, thinking I’d need to sand the old stuff off, (SO MUCH WORK), but this would make the job much easier. Thanks for your post.

Love this. I’m not sure if we would even want to tackle a project like this. The paint is not cheap. Ace hardware where I live isn’t close at all. I did do a search and Home Depot stores carry this too. We have one in our area.

Considering it is all one one paint with extremely great results, I think it is worth it:)

You have a brilliant talent for color schemes. Everything you post is beautiful. My son and wife have inherited an older home that needs a lot of updating. The kitchen cabinets are cherry but in a rough shape and they want to paint. They have been told to sand the cabinets before painting; would this type of paint adhere to the stain and worn varnish?

Yes Laura it would. In fact they have a special cabinet paint if you go to their site you will see a variety of beautiful colors. Best wishes and thank you for your kind visit.

Your garden stand turned out so nice. I can’t believe that you didn’t have to sand it first because of the rust. I have a metal bench that needs to be repainted and I will be using this product. I also live close to an ACE Hardware store. Thanks so much for sharing.

Love your finished project! I’ve used Beyond Paint (used to be called Reclaim Beyond) and it is awesome! It totally transformed the oak kitchen table and chairs I found on Craigslist. Self leveling, so no brush marks, no odor, and a nice low sheen, too. So happy to hear it’s being sold at Ace hardware now! I will be buying some of the red to use in my new kitchen next month! Thanks!
