WhEn Life Hands YoU LeMons…………

By Debbiedoo's Team Published: May 1, 2010

I had no intention of doing a project today, HOWEVER……for the past year I have been looking for an old piece of furniture to refinish.  It had to be just the right size, and just the right height. Mission after mission, I come up with nothing! You see I have had this corner dilemma in my kitchen.  I like to have just about every nook and cranny filled in my home.  In the meantime I have had this old retro rolling cart in my corner, which totally did not work.  So today I was in the Walmart, as usual and all of  a sudden I came up with a…..

Well the color is a bright  idea, however not sure on the project…..for now it was cheap, and would suit my purpose.  This is is how the corner looked before….

Just a mess actually! I had given up all hope……
and then I saw this piece…YUK I know what was I thinking?

Totally does not work in my house at all, but for 19.96 I thought I can come up with something….so I came home put it together in 15 minutes…..took my bright idea paint, and sprayed away….

Love my new measuring cups from Pier I

All my favorite colors

Finally some storage for my cookbooks which have been tucked away in a cupboard
This is an oldie but goodie we found at a local antique store…some darn good southern cooking in here!

So for now my under $25.00 project will do, til I find just the right piece.  What do you think? Does it look cheesy?

I like this picute, no rhyme or reason

The Dining area in the kitchen is probably my favorite room in our house.  I love the backyard view with all the trees.  When the sun is streaming through as you can see here it is very scenic.  I see birds, all kinds, cardinals, blue jays, woodpeckers, finches, hummingbirds.  I have a family of 7 deer, that like to pop in and say hi as well,  then of course we have squirrels and  rabbits.  When the Fall season arrives the colors are amazing.  I change up the decor a bit per season, and right now this is my Spring Summer look.
Lots of parties to join this coming week…to kick off the weekend I am linking up to Funky junk interiors.  Thank you to all you awesome hosts for these linkie parties, I love them! And thanks everyone for your comments, I sure do appreciate it, and will be sure to return the same to you. Lynda over at Focal point blogspot had a Bright idea, and that was to get some S hooks to hang my measuring cups…hence I did! Thanks Lynda.  And if you have not been over at Lynda’s blog, you really should, the girl has Mad talent!!~http://nyclq-focalpoint.blogspot.com

You are making me love that yellow paint! I have three of those shelf things in my decorating closet/room. I am thinking about cutifying that room and I never thought about painting those shelves. You have shown me such great possibilities!!

BTW, I think your corner looks super cute

Deb: The shelf works….I just love the yellow and it goes so well in your home. I don't think that you have to change it again… I almost stop on the side of the road the other day…saw an old fashioned metal type couch thing…now I wished that I would have stopped….I could have cleaned it up, sprayed it a cool color and added cushions..darn it!!

The shelf looks so great! I had a couple just like that and have some really ugly ones that are very commercial looking. I store the china I sell on them in racks…but maybe I should paint them to freshen them up and make them look alive. This looks so nice!

Love the little yellow shelf. I completely adore your kitchen and all its little accessories, from the lemon branches to the cute little teacups! It's all wonderful!

That's really cute! Love your dinning area. I've got the urge to look for a buffet and paint it.

So clever and cute! I'm itching to see how it looks, (the shelf) set at an angle in your space. Everything on it looks fabulous….thanks!

Okay Deb so I know Im in older posts like you said but once again I found some lemons….I LOVE LEMONS! Your rooms have all my favorite things, lemons, roosters and color! Are the branches in that vase real? OMG do you have a lemon tree? I have 2 of those racks. lol They were kitchen storage in my old home and now they are outside one on either side of the 2 bbq grills. Guess what I feel a painting party coming on. Im going to paint them one of the colors of my mexican talavera tile. I have a picture of them somewhere..but they have red,blue,lime,off-white,golden yellow. Thanks so much for a new idea. Its always a pleasure browsing you blog. Its like my bedtime story..lol it's now 12:07am. goodnite

I didn't remember the measuring cups from Pier1 the last time I looked at this…those are so cool – like the way Grandma used a broken tea cup for her one cup measure back in the piOneer days!!
