REvisited Traditional Home tour at Finding Home

By Debbiedoo's Team Published: Feb 15, 2013 · Modified: Feb 4, 2025

I was so excited when Debbie invited me to be here today to share my home with all of you.  I feel honored to be in such great company with all of the lovely homes that Debbie shares here.  Imagine if they were all in one neighborhood – imagine how beautiful that would be!   Debbie has done such a great job of selecting different style homes, but the one thing they all have in common – is that they feel like “home”.  Creating a welcoming and comfortable home, to me is the most important part of decorating.

A little more about me, my name is Laura and I blog at Finding Home. I live with my two daughters and hubby in Orange County, NY.  We have lived here for almost 13 years.  3 years ago, around this time, we faced the choice of moving or renovating, and I am so happy to say we chose to renovate.  We kept the footprint of our home the same, but made changes that allowed our home to work better for our family.

Our home is the story of a builder’s grade home that got us into a great neighborhood, but now is really a reflection of us and our lifestyle.

So, without further adieu…

Welcome to our Home…

One of my favorite changes in the living room was to add the built in bookcases.  This room is just comfortable, cozy and where I go to decompress.

Our dining room hutch is filled with my ironstone collection – mostly vintage, but some new too.

And my toleware trays always make me smile.  Actually, there have been some additions to the walls in this room that I will be sharing soon!

Just like most homes, our family room is where we spend most of our time.  The footprint is not huge, but after asking my friends to move furniture around many times, we realized we could fit a large sofa and loveseat so that there was more seating.  And, since my husband is a couch hog – it really does work out better!

The fireplace mantel and surround was part our renovations and it is one of my favorite areas to decorate for the seasons.

One thing you will find throughout our home is that it our style is mostly based in traditional, but we have some other elements that we have brought it – the main one being vintage accessories.

The space between our kitchen and family room just got a makeover with a gallery wall.

The biggest change we made in our house was to our kitchen. This layout and style works so much better for us now.

There used to be a little tiny laundry room in the back left corner of our kitchen.  We took that out and the garage entrance from the back right to get more space.  The reason we no longer have an entrance to the garage, is because one bay is now our mudroom!

This space is the workhorse of our house and rarely looks this organized and clean!

Downstairs we have a guest bathroom and bedroom that welcomes our loved one pretty regularly.

Our bedroom is the space that I haven’t gotten quite right yet, but my wheels are turning to hopefully make some simple changes.

My daughter’s bedroom got a “tween” makeover that really has worked out so well and she really loves her room.

As part of our renovations, we finally fixed the flooding issues in our basement (knock on wood please!) and finished it to a TV area…

Adult area…

And kids’ play and crafting area.

And the final part of the changes happened in the last year – outside with a porch and pool.

I feel so very blessed and lucky to have such a beautiful home and try my best to share it with those I love, even when it doesn’t look like the pictures!

Thank you so much for “visiting” my home and thank you so much to Debbie for inviting me to her blog home!

If you would like to follow along with me on Facebook or Pinterest, I hope to share future projects and inspiration with you as well!

Thank you Laura so much for having us over today! Your home, style and decor are simply AWESOME!

If you don’t know Laura, go on over and say hello!

I’m doing some MAJOR swooning here!!! I literally scrolled up and down over and over again just to absorb Laura’s beautiful home. I think that’s the first time I’ve seen it all in one big tour and it was PHENOMENAL! She has exceptional taste and it is gorgeous and elegant yet so warm and welcoming at the same time. And it’s a reflection of the heart and spirit of it’s owner for sure! 🙂
