Old recipe cards can hold more than instructions for a family dinner. Faded ink, crossed-out measurements, and handwriting from someone who once cooked those meals can make a small piece of paper difficult to replace. Keeping the cards in a drawer protects them, but leaves them out of sight.

Instead of transferring the recipes onto new cards or typing them into a cookbook, TikTok creator @kimberlyj_king turned handwritten family recipes into framed wall art. She used gold frames, patterned fabric backings, and small family photographs to create a display built around the original handwriting.
The finished gallery wall brings recipes for pumpkin crunch, potato delight, breakfast toast, and other family dishes together. Each card remains the focus, with different frame sizes and fabrics separating the recipes rather than making them look like a matching set.
A Pumpkin Crunch Recipe Became the Center of the Gallery Wall

The largest frame holds a handwritten pumpkin crunch recipe against navy-and-cream plaid fabric. Its wide gold border gives the card space on the wall, while a small framed family photograph sits near the lower corner.
The recipe lists canned pumpkin, brown sugar, white sugar, eggs, milk, cinnamon, yellow cake mix, melted margarine, and chopped pecans. Instructions remain beneath the ingredients, preserving the way the recipe was written and passed along.
Rather than enlarging the card or replacing the handwriting with printed text, the creator left space around the paper. The plaid backing fills the frame without covering the recipe.
Other gold frames surround it, each holding a different handwritten card. Their arrangement turns a collection of family instructions into a kitchen gallery wall.
Different Fabric Backings Give Each Recipe Its Own Frame

A closer view shows how the fabric changes the appearance of each recipe. The pumpkin crunch card sits against dark plaid, while a potato delight recipe appears on a solid dark backing.
The potato recipe is written on a printed card with a small illustration of kitchen utensils. Its ingredients include red potatoes, sour cream, green onions, butter, and grated cheese.
The handwritten instructions remain visible beneath the ingredient list, including the cooking temperature and time.
The creator kept the cards’ different paper colors, writing styles, and layouts rather than trying to make them match.
Those differences are part of the display. Each recipe retains its own appearance, while the gold frames connect the pieces across the wall.
Smaller Frames Hold Recipes Without Changing Their Handwriting

Other sections of the gallery wall use narrow striped fabric instead of plaid. One frame contains two handwritten recipe cards, while smaller ornate frames hold individual recipes.
A breakfast toast recipe appears inside a thick gold frame with a raised border. Beneath it, another frame holds two chicken recipes against gray striped fabric.
The arrangement uses frames of different widths, heights, and border designs. Some have plain gold edges, while others feature carved patterns.
To create a similar display, patterned fabric can be attached to a backing board before the recipe card is mounted. Acid-free supports and photo-safe corners can hold valuable paper without glue touching the handwriting.
For fragile or irreplaceable recipes, a scan or photograph offers another option. The copy can go into the frame while the original stays protected from sunlight, moisture, and handling.
The finished wall doesn’t depend on matching frames or perfect handwriting. The recipes remain recognizable as the cards family members once used, with their handwriting becoming the part worth displaying.
