Modern Country home tour

By Debbiedoo's Team Published: May 24, 2013 · Modified: May 26, 2025

Hi! I’m Tanya, and I am so excited to be sharing a tour of my home with you today.
Debbie, thank you so very much for all of your advice, and being such a rockin’blogging resource (in addition to just being wonderful), we luv ya!
Tanya, describes her home as Modern Country.
Filled with lots of thrifty home decor ideas!
Sooooooo….

Come on in!

Modern Country style home tour

I am a mama x4 ranging in age from 2-21 (yes, that is not a typo!)

And my eldest is having her first little one later this year.

I have loved art, decorating, and all things DIY for as long as

I can remember.  You can find me most days surrounded by

paint, diapers, sawdust, and a mountain of laundry.  I would

love for you to visit me as we turn our house into a comfortable

family home, one thrifty project at a time.

Welcome to our nest! I am so happy to be sharing our projects

and ideas with you.  I will walk you around the back first and

share a few of my favorite flowers.

This lovely rose is called “double delight”, the blooms are amazing.

I hope to see some hummingbird’s soon…

The rich purple color of this climbing clematis only lasts a few short

weeks each spring.

Inside our two story home, the main floor has an open floor plan,

which I love.  Decorating can be challenging to keep it flowing

from one space to another.  So little by little we are transforming

the main floor into a space that works well for us.

Here is the sofa table I made out of two old stools and some stained lumber.

When I couldn’t find a table to fit behind our sectional and define

this space, I figured it couldn’t be that hard to make one.

You can find the tutorial here.

While I may use our Mason Jar Chandelier outside this summer,

or make another one, it’s residing in the kitchen for now.

When the kitchen is finished hopefully Debbie will have

me visit again so I can show you the rest of the

“under construction” areas…

Our living room has been outfitted with comfy furniture that is
family friendly.  With just enough pretty things to make mama happy.

The bookcases that mock built-ins were discontinued at a local store,
we picked them up for a song and four of them fit perfectly
along our living room wall.

Fabric bins hide Lego’s, Tinker-toys, and more
GI Joe’s than my boys know what to do with.

We use our gas fireplace occasionally, above which hangs my favorite
sunburst mirror I made last year.
Let’s head upstairs, we just finished updating our
family/play room…
This space is one large room above our garage.
One side is the family room, and the toys are stored on the other side of the room.
I chose a warm grey for the walls, which is great change from white.Painting the trim is next on the list…

Storage is always in high demand, so placing funky painted
dressers, bins and baskets around the house help me
control clutter.

I hemmed white flat twin sheets, and using rope and large screw-eyes
created a casual, nautical window treatment.

My Grandfather’s globe sits on top of our recently painted red country table.
I remember sitting at his desk and playing with this globe when I was a
little girl.  I am so happy to see my kids using it today.

We mixed painted furniture with fun fabrics and easy DIY projects
you can find on the blog to create a space we love to
play, create and relax in.
Let’s head back downstairs, and enjoy some coffee on the porch…

Thank you so much for visiting me today,I really appreciate it!!
I was so honored to receive Debbie’s invitation,
thank you again friend.

xo, Tanya
Thank you Tanya your home is obviously filled with Life and Love!
