the Summer garden is a ghost. Now I am moving on to the Fall/Winter scene around here. Not being a green thumb is challenging to say the least. I am hoping the Winter greens I purchased will last until Spring. They sure look pretty for now. Let me start with the Summer tour…just a few pics for ya.
WOW…I just love this picture!
Moving on to Fall now…
Painted the planters a nice color of Olive green, by Krylon
I am loving Kale! It is suppose to be very hardy throughout the winter time.
Taking the Fall scene compared to the Summer scene is a major difference.
Leaves changing ever so slightly.
Now onto the front. Today Mike and I spent the entire day, trimming, planting and sprucing up. I also put out just a few more Halloween spooky stuff. As I told you Alex is having a party, and I want it to be fun around here. The theme this week over at Funky junk intereiors….is shutters. Let me tell you quickly our house shutter story.
When we purchased this house the original shutters where brown plastic. Although they looked fine, it really was not until one day I saw these shutters on a new home some where else. We were driving through this neighbrohood with million dollar homes, you do know we can dream. I noticed on one home these awesome looking shutters. I said to my husband, I may not be able to afford the home, however I bet we can afford to get those shutters made.
SUre enough, he agreed. Ironically, we found the same fellow who did the million dollar home. We love the character it brought to our home. I have had people ask me if our home is NEW or OLD, they can’t tell. Our home is only 5 years old. However, we have tried to create an Old world feel.
I really want window boxes, but my husband said “why so we can display dead plants”..yes he really is a nice guy, however, he knows me all too well.
I am thinking the birds are not going to be happy for the next week or so.
If you are new here, welcome! I am also very excited to share my new stencil line with you.

Looks great! I love how you change the colors of all your stuff with each season. I think I am too lazy for that! haha
A girl needs 2 Talk
Would you be mad at me if I tell you that I'm GLAD I'm not the only one who has to put with with plants going dead too soon?
Linda @ A La Carte
It looks good Deb. I got some kale this year also and hope it will 'winter' well! I need to add some pansies!
That is a great shot of your chairs. Love the green change on the planter.
Wonderful tour! Is your house old or built to look so? It has tons of character. I don't know how you did the house pictures with the grey washed look with just hints of color but those are great shots-worthy of framing. Kale is really hardy..I don't think you can kill it…..but ya never know with SOME people-Bwhahahahaha xxoo Diana
Hey Debbie it's been a while but i checked in all summer just very BUSY with the kids and I figured it would slow down once school started NOT!!!!(LOL) Beautiful post of the outside as always!! Have a great weekend, Martina

It all looks so good. I love the two pots of flowers sitting on the window ledge. I hope to plant some winter loving plants soon after I get back to a normal life.
Oh how I wish Jasmine grew here… It smells wonderful !!!
Looks great!! I have to tell you, I actually love the potted plants in the window more than flower boxes! Everyone has those- I like that you have something different! Plus how fun would it be to get a bunch of large terracotta pots and you could paint holiday motif's and put them there!!
Marla @ Always Nesting
You've been busy!! I, too, love window boxes. Your yard looks wonderful.
Almost everything here is gone except the mums and maybe a few annuals hanging on. That's just the way it is in the Midwest. In a way it's a nice break. Just clean up and wait for spring!!
I love the plants you have in your windows…I think window boxes would be lovely!! Your house is beautiful!
Love your well groomed yard. Our yard man came on Thursday. Everything looked so beautiful. We just came this evening and pine needles had fallen all over the drive. We could barely see where to drive.
You are so cute, I love all the Halloweeny stuff. I know where you get it. I love the Garden Girl. Hugs, Ginger
Atelier de Charo

Debbie, I love that you spray paint more than I do… Or at least as much as me:) Let the girls pick one item each to spray paint last night, gonna have to post it!

Someone has been playing in Picasas I see. Nice job. That is one of my favorite effects. I so, want some Kale in my wagon this year, but it's already getting quite chillie up here in the Midwest.
Thanks for the tour.
You got it, I'm back in the 70s tonight,
Loved the tour! Great job with the pics. Loved what you did with the house pictures (the grayscale). I think that is a Japanese Elms by your front porch? I think they are so pretty. Gorgeous home.
I love the plants in the windows! I have a black thumb. Tom actually bought me a shirt one time that had three pictures of plants. The first one was alive and beautiful, the second was the plant wilting and the third was it dead. It said, "I buy, I try, They die." Yep… that about sums it up for my plant abilities!! I bought some beautiful mums that said to water once a week. They were starting to look puny and I read on LIz's page that she waters her everyday. Who knew! I have to water those bad boys! Oh well, I am hoping to plant them in the ground after the holidays so I am praying I don't completely kill them! Everything looks great at your house!

Everything is looking so good over at your home. I love the little pots in your windows too. I can't believe you painted your adirondak chairs again! OMG! They look fantastic but oh,the work! You are amazing!
Gorgeous tour of your garden and home, Debbie! Those shutters are fantastic looking, I agree!

You're lucky to have a fall garden, green thumb or not…there's no such thing as a fall garden in NY! lol (other than mums which will most likely last for another few weeks at best)
Your shutters are beautiful!

Hey you thanks for loving my witches too! I like your spray paint on the planters and oh how I love kale but never seem to use it. I always forget about it.
Love your bird bath with the skull and spider. Hope he has a great party!
Wow! Debbie I love seeing all of these exterior shots and your shutters on your house are gorgeous and add so much character! I love the chairs painted red too! I'm going to have to go over to the shutter party and check it out!

Love those shutters!
p.s. I am having a wonderful giveaway…come enter!
Very neat shutters. I can't grow anything either. If I had window boxes I'd be tempted to put plastic flowers in them! 😉
Velvet Over Steel
I LOVE the shutters & it does give your house even More Character!
Oh and don't feel bad…. my window boxes would be the same way. No green thumb here! 🙂 I have expensive 'silk' plants in my house! So much easier… I just have to remember to clean them. 🙂 Dust on them seem to give the 'secret' away. LOL
Have a fantastic week, Debbie!!
I do not have a green thumb at all, but next Spring I'm making an attempt because I have my own home now. I love your shutters!
Debbie-What beautiful pictures! Your shutters are really gorgeous and make a huge difference. I love that look! Don't you hate it when husbands are right? 🙂 I still have struggling impatiens in my window boxes and dead petunias!! I love the kale. I put it in pots with pansies every year. Hope you have a good week! Thanks for dropping by!
Pam @ diy Design Fanatic
Thanks for the fall tour Debbie! I sooo love your Adirondack chairs painted blue. They are fantastic!
Hi! What a great job on the yard. Love those shutters. My Dad built a few for their house in the late 70's like that. Now they have a different design he created, but still wood. Another thing on our to do list…change our shutters..ha
Life with L
Everything looks wonderful. Love the chairs. I have a windobox too.
Hate losing most of our color in the garden.
Love the shutters Deb; makes your house look like it's in Myers Park!
Enjoy your new freedom from blogging time; I am semi retired from it myself. Now, if I could just stop reading blogs 🙂
