Sometimes, all it takes is a little creativity, some spare time, and a few accessible materials. 1. Gather your supplies

  • Plain fabric shade
  • Fabric swatches
  • Sponge brush
  • Mod Podge
  • Embellishments (optional)

2. Prepare your worksapce

Start by setting up a suitable work area. Ideally, it should be a flat surface that’s easy to clean. Lay out your materials for easy access and arrange your fabric swatches until you’re satisfied with the combination. Remember, there’s no wrong way to do this; choose what feels right to you.

3. Apply Mod Podge to the lampshade

Using your sponge brush, apply a generous layer of Mod Podge to the middle section of the lampshade. Aim for a smooth, even layer, taking care not to leave any drips or clumps. Let it sit for a moment to get slightly tacky before proceeding to the next step.

4. Add fabric swatches

Brush Mod Podge onto the back of the first fabric swatch, making sure it’s entirely covered. Carefully apply the swatch to the Mod Podge-covered section of the lampshade. Pat it down to ensure it lies flat and adheres properly. Repeat this process, one swatch at a time, until your lampshade is covered to your liking.

5. Seal the fabric swatches

Go over each fabric swatch with another layer of Mod Podge using your sponge brush. This will seal the fabric and secure all edges. Allow your lampshade to dry completely, which may take a few hours.

6. Add more layers or decorations (optional)

If you’re feeling extra creative, consider adding more decorations. For example, apply a sprinkle of glitter or sequins over the wet Mod Podge for a new dimension.

Caring for your new re-covered lampshade is straightforward. Dust it lightly as needed and handle with care to preserve your beautiful work.
