I spent over 2 hours at Goodwill the other day! I kid you not. It was Monday, and they had a whole new shipment of goods come in. I have to say, I enjoyed my visit so much this time. There are days I go in and out so fast. I am scanner and I can tell right away if it’s going to be a good day or not. I knew today it would be. I even bought some designer clothes. I tried the outfit on when I came home and the jeans a bit snug. I am keeping them though and determined to have them fit more comfortable in a few weeks. Then I will model my designer outfit for you:)
Today, I am sharing a wood tray makeover. I bet you have all seen these trays at one time or another. I think one of my old Italian Aunts had this tray. I never was fond of the fruit look in the kitchen. I have always been drawn to roosters. Even in our Florida home. That in fact is where I started my collection back 15 years ago.
I am sure you have become familiar with the thrifty group of gals I do this with every month.
We even have a new gal that joined us. Gail from my repurposed life.
I am thinking SPRING ladies. Flowers, birds and the fresh smell of flowers. Oh boy, with that comes pollen too. Not a fan of that part.
Y’all already know how I love my stencils. I use them over and over and over again. I have one stencil that is so coated with layers of craft paint it is actually hard now and not even flexible. It still works though and now I don’t even think the store carries it.
The two stencils I used today are a bit more newish.
I used this porch stencil last year for two projects. A kitchen sign makeover and a pallet sign for our back porch.
The bird and flower stencil I used on a burlap pillow.
Here is the before of this beauty tray. ACK..no way can I leave it like this. It was a whopping $2.99.
Tell me you haven’t seen one of these trays or perhaps even owned one at one time or another?
I knew using chalk paint would be my best option for coverage. I painted the tray with two coats using the waverly chalk paint I bought at Walmart.
Once that was completely dry, I taped my stencil only partially as you can see. Obviously, I was not using this for the porch,but the other words I liked and thought they would be perky and peppy in the kitchen this Spring.
I love using my stencil pouncer. If you do not have one, get one today. Always remember less is more when stenciling. You can always go back and dab more if you see the stencil does not have enough coverage. Once you use too much that error of run over and bleeding is hard to fix. Less is more, just keep telling yourself that and you got it!
I am starting to spread and sprinkle some Spring around here. As you can clearly tell,I am over Winter, and we didn’t even have a bad one. I think some day I may need to live on a tropical island. A girl can dream.
It is dreary and drizzly here today. So my pictures are not as bright and happy. Once I do my kitchen up in Spring and it is a sunny day, I will share better ones.
But you get the gist…Spring is somewhere near.

Now,I have to lose about 5lbs to fit in the jeans. I am determined though,because they are cute. The entire outfit cost me $10.00!

Wow, Debbie, you scored with that cute outfit and the tray turned out great! Looking forward to you modeling your new outfit! Sometimes I find great stuff at the thrift store and sometimes I don’t. I had to laugh last visit because I found several items I had donated the week before! That’s never happened to me. Once I donate I usually never see them again.

Shhh..don’t tell my husband but I put a tiny nail in the wall, and ironically, the tray is a picture:) It had the picture hanging hook on it already.
I hate to admit it. But, I’ve spend 2 hrs in Goodwill before too. I sometimes feel sorry for a few of my friends who would never step foot in one .
They just don’t get it. Lol. Your tray turned out fantastic. I’ve got a project with Waverly paint next week. As for your designer outfit….that is just my style. Love it!!
Thanks! I never understand that either. In fact, whenever my boys needed a suit jacket there have been many times I haul them to Goodwill with me. They can never believe how cheap and nice they are.
One of my favorite things to do! One project I am most proud of is an old ugly brass lamp which I changed out the electrical component, painted, got a new lampshade and now is sitting beautifully in my daughter’s room. Foolishly I never took a before shot. Your post inspired me to hit my Goodwill up today!!!

Thrift stores in general are busier than ever these days. I always consider it an adventure, as you never know what you will find. Great job on the tray. I love the peppy phrases.

Even cheaper you can buy used Designer Clothes just wash when you get them home. I can’t wait to see you in your new outfit!! great finds! I was at the thrift store today and I found large plastic lazy susans; I called my daughter and asked if she could use them in her kitchen cupboards (yes) With my senior discount they were just under $2.00 each. I got all 3 of them and on the back they were $18.99 each from a specialty organizer store.

Nice tray make-over! Ya know, I think I bought a wooden tray about a year ago. Didn’t really know what to do with it at the time, so tucked it away in my ‘to do’ box in the basement. Now that I see what you’ve done with yours, it’s given me inspiration!! Some chalky paint and a bit of embellishmenet and I’ll have a ‘new’ tray for my front porch (when the weather finally settles down). I’m SO ANXIOUS for porch sittin. Thanks for your great post.
