Top 10 cleaning tips that really do work

By Debbiedoo's Team Published: Jul 24, 2014 · Modified: Feb 4, 2025

Hi there everyone!

Today I am sharing top 10 cleaning tips that really do work.

We all have to clean on occasion.  Even when we don’t want to, it is just part of life.

I would not consider myself overly clean.  Although it seems like I am forever doing it, my house is by no means spotless.

I recently took a panel on my facebook page and asked YOU, my readers, my friends, what is the best cleaning tip you could give a gal.

Top 10 cleaning tips

I gathered them up and compiled the list for you as well.

If you missed any of my cleaning tips,

How to clean your stove grates

How to restore and clean your hardwood floors,

or how to clean your granite, check them out while you are here.

I can attest, they really do work as well, so you may want to check those out.

TOP 10 cleaning tips that really do work

Shirley:  I’m a nurse and we are made to wear white………..as coffee, tea and soda is the foundation of my existence I have been know to spill on myself……..peroxide will take it right out, all three, immediately, even if it has dried…….I have used it on colored clothes too and keep a large bottle at my desk and in my laundry room………..doesn’t work on greasy stains but most all other ones

Stephanie: Use a cheaper. ..ie suave clarifying shampoo and a scrubby sponge go clean tubs and showers to remove soap scum. Works every single time

Barrie: EZ off oven spray on your bath tub…spray all over, leave it there for a couple hours, and rinse. No scrubbing necessary. Awesome.

Alyssia: Efferdent gets blood and grass stains out of clothes, learned that years ago when I had to wear white at the hospital. Lol not the grass but I tried it on my kids sports uniforms and it worked.

Melanie: Dryer sheets to clean soap scum on shower doors….amazing!

Katherine: To clean the glass door on fireplaces, dampen paper towel, dip in ashes and scrub the glass. Wipe dry with clean paper towel.

Scott Angie: Resolve foam carpet cleaner for stains on clothes

Cynthia:  I use either hydrogen peroxide or WD40 to get stains out of clothing; works like a charm and don’t be afraid it will discolor it…also, works on carpet..try a test spot b4hand tho.

Becky Ray:  Dilute garage floor cleaner by 50% in a spray bottle. Soak stains completely and launder right away. It gets grease stains out of clothes like no other!

Amy: Borax for my old porcelain tub

(made a paste), let it sit, then scrubbed. Like you would Comet.

And that my friends are out of the mouth of babes:)

Thanks for stopping over today.  I can’t wait to take my next survey.

You guys rock.

If  any of you would like to add to the list…feel free!

Thanks for stopping over today.

If you are not a regular I sure would love to have you.

XO

Sigh – you’ve reminded me I need to go do the shower doors, Debbie! : ( I’ve been putting it off, but resolved today {before I went to bed tonight} I would do them. I’ve tried the dryer sheets. It seemed to work the first time but not after that. I kept some used ones in with my cleaning supplies so I will try them again anyway. Love the oven cleaner tip. I’ll have to try that in our other bathroom that has the tub. I actually have that clarifying shampoo mentioned in my shower so I may give that a try, too.

    Thanks for sharing!

Don’t forget to use newspaper to dry glass and coffee filters to scrub it clean.

I’m wondering about using easy off on the bathtub. I’m not sure I would work on a plastic tub if you left it on a couple of hours. It might eat the plastic. Can you check that one out for me thanks Debbiedoos

Mom that is a good question. I don’t think I would try it, or perhaps read the can and see if it says not to use on plastic surfaces.

Love the dryer sheets trick! Must try that. Also I found putting dawn dishwashing detergent on a greasy stain and let that sit over night works wonders. So far it has gotten all greasy food stains out of our clothes.

I currently have blood on my carpet. From a nose, not a whole body, and I’m going to try hydrogen peroxide on it. I will report back.

Thanks for sharing the informative post!! probably cloth stains are the tough ones to get rid of and hence one needs to find the right treatments that can help in removing them else they will ruin the clothes.

shampoo takes blood stains out of clothes and pillows and just about anything ! Just pour on shampoo and rub in and launder as Normal !!! Works on dried blood stains as well ! I washed a throw pillow while vacationing in a house rental , don’t know how long the stain had been there but a quick machine wash and it was like new !!!
