Laundry room makeover reveal…finally

By Debbiedoo's Team Published: Apr 17, 2012 · Modified: Dec 21, 2019

Finally,
I am sharing the Laundry room makeover reveal with you!
Who would think a little tiny space could wreak so much havoc!
First thing I wanted to do is makeover the piece o crud utility sink.
This is actually a replacement to the builder grade one.
laundry room makeover
However, it is a piece oh crud.
All particle board, flimsy and light as a feather.
It serves a purpose though, and until a nice one is in the budget, this will do.
First let me share the old laundry room look.

Yes, very bright and cheery room before.
I was tired however, of those vines.
They just started to remind me of my 80’s decorating style.
Even though I loved my 80’s, not so much in the decorating dept.
I kept my roo’s in here.  Our laundry room is right off the kitchen, so I wanted it to flow, not clash.
The color I chose is called Shore, by restoration hardware.
Lovely color, but completely different than what I was used to in here.
Honestly, at first, I did not like it.
I thought, OH no, how am I going to cozy up this room with such a cool color.
Seriously, we all want a cozy laundry room right?
I found this old washboard many moons ago.
Now these little chalk board ROO’s I am in love with.
I found them at Target .
Very easy to peel and adhere to the walls, and look, I can write on them.
You know this big ole white utility/electric boxes we all have?
Well I decided to paint it with black chalkboard paint, and actually make it something useful!
chalkboard electric box chalkboard electric box
This wire basket I found at an antique shop for a few bucks.  Two of them actually, and One I decided I would hang, and make useful as well.
My Burlap valance
HERE
 Burlap love {diy curtains}
Now moving on to the piece oh crud.
I was not going to waste my time and energy on painting the entire piece.
However, I thought a few fun colors added on, could make the difference.
and of course a little embellishment.
I hand dotted these knobs, instead of running out to buy new ones.
Painted them black, then took my craft paint and used a tooth pick to dot the dots.
I spray painted the inserts..and then distressed them.
I had these old laundry prints as well.
Bought those off of ebay many years ago.
They were in plain oak frames and I painted these black.
Remember my spray painted/Stenciled garden boots?

Also, painted one of the wood plaque embellishments, you may
see what started that
HERE
A little color and whimsy goes a long way.
And we can’t forget Lucy’s crate….
I am still getting used to the color change.  I am happy though with the new rug I found at Lowes, I think it brought all my colors together.

So that is what I have been working on foreva!
Thanks for stopping by today!
Love if you followed me along..
I am always chatting it up on facebook.

I’m not sure what to pick as my fav I like it all. Goes without saying Lucy’s spot, so I’ll pick another….. hmmm….. I think it has to be the update to the laundry sink. My laundry is BEGGING for something, and I have some vines with ribbon in the stairway that have got to go. I don’t have a window in there so no worry about making an evil burlap valance.

Love the color – I was never a fan of blue either – but put it in my bathroom and am loving it! Love that old washboard (I have one in my basement – surprise)!

Cute chalkboards – and love that you chalk boarded (new word) the utility box!

The chalkboard additions are so smart–the “crud” as you call it looks so charming now–and leave it to Sonya to add ruffles to a coffee sack, gotta love that girl! P.S. Nice WordPress switch ;).

Bringing in that blue color definitely freshens it up, but it is so nice to see someone embrace other colors as well and it has such a cheerful feeling to it. There seems to be so much neutral out there and we color gals gotta stick together right? You did a fantastic job transforming this room and I love it!

Mine is the free-standing kind tucked over in it’s own little alcove, but The Man wants to redo that with a built-in sink cabinet with a cabinet above it. I have the rest of our laundry room looking pretty good & am tempted to share it & not show the utility sink area. Maybe I’ll do that.

I like the wall color, but I absolutely adore your polka dotted knobs! They’re so cute! 🙂 Great makeover.

Love your new laundry room!! If mine was as half as cute as this, I might actually want to do the laundry. 🙂

That rug is perfect for pulling all the colors together, Debbie! You did a good job making this flow from your kitchen, I think. And while “elegant” seems to be the current theme for laundry rooms, I honestly think I like laundry rooms to be CHEERFUL. Right now, I’d just love for mine to be one-tenth as clean as yours. (Shoot, I’d like for my whole house to a fraction as clean as yours!)

I must say, though, that the idea of painting the utility panel is beyond cute and cheerful. It’s brilliant. What a great idea!
