A gaudy picture frame makeover

Good morning! What a beautiful fall day it is out there today. I am also a bit excited our college boy is coming home for the weekend. We don’t get to see him as much these days so when we do, I am always very excited about the weekends spent with him. I miss those days. His brother is quite excited too. I think Jack has asked at least 3 times what time Alex is coming home.

Yesterday I did a little fluffing about the house. I was in in the mood to change out my tablecloth curtains. Although this set was my all time favorite, it was a bit too bright and summer like for the season. I needed to tone it down some. See my tablecloth curtains HERE

In my wandering about the Walmart I stumbled upon these cheapo frames for 4.00.

It is quite gaudy if I do say so myself. I did however-love the detail and the shape of the frame and knew with a little chalky paint I could make it all pretty and to my style.

I removed the glass and matte border first. I used Waverly chalk paint in a moss color. You can find these little paints at Walmart. They are only about $1.50. I painted the frame with two coats and let completely dry for a few hours. After the frame was dry I used a little wax to bring out the true color. I did not paint the back of the frame. I had no problem with a little gold peeking out.

I made a pretty Thanksgiving printable and cut it to shape. I actually used the insert to follow the shape precisely.

I am thrilled with how it turned out. This will sit proudly on our Thanksgiving table this year.

I made the printable for all of us:) You can use any 8 x 10 frame. Print HERE

Or head on over to Walmart and pick yourself up a gaudy frame and make it over.

Thanks so much for popping in today. Soon I will show you my new table cloth curtains.

If you are new here, Welcome. You can also check out my custom stencil line on Amazon.

I love gaudy frames! Even if they are gold but the color you chose to go with your print looks super cute! I hope you are doing really well! So good to catch up over here.

You say you used wax. How do you do that?

I just used a paper towel and rubbed it in, then buffed it out lightly. You can use a brush as well.

That came out very nice. I also redo frames to personalize them.

I bought to “Cranberry Trees” at a second hand store and they have the gaudiest “gold” pots holding them up. I never thought about using chalk paint to change them. I will be going to the store tomorrow to get something a little calmer. Thanks for sharing.

    Debbie,
Your talent always makes me smile. It’s not easy when our boys grow up. both of mine are going to be married within one year. My husband retired our oldest married and our youngest became engaged in less than one month. This moms head is swirling, Enjoy your college guy while he’s home.
