Country French Kitchen

By Debbiedoo's Team Published: Apr 24, 2012 · Modified: Feb 4, 2025

Our kitchen is truly the hub of the home. I like to call it Country French, however, I believe it is  a Rustic/Country/Spanish eclectic look. Call it what you will…we truly enjoy it!

If you have been a long time friend and reader, you know we bought our home without stepping foot in it.

We peeked through the windows, and the first room we saw was the kitchen.  We fell in love with the custom hickory wood cabinets, the backsplash and the overall warm country feeling.  We have not had to do anything in terms of renovating, changing or painting.

I change out my decor seasonally, so at any given time you may see something  new behind the backsplash,

the sink, on the walls, and of course a new centerpiece on the table.  Most of our kitchen decor/accessories  are either hand made by me, passed down by family, or picked up from a thrift store.

P1170326 684x1024 Country french kitchen {sunflowers and roosters} NEWBIE party started!

When you like to change things out as often as I do, you certainly do not want to break the bank doing so.  Besides, there is absolutely NO reason you can’t have a beautiful, comfortable home on a SMALL budget.

Sometimes, it’s all in the little things…

" Its the little things in life"...

This little embellishment, caused quite the stir out in blog land….

a few gals went on to do the same…

Heck… even decorating with free paint swatches can be fun per season!

I love color, and always incorporate it in our kitchen.

One of my all time favorite  things in our kitchen is my FREE wood palletthat I picked out of the garbage at Lowes hardware.

Along with my Goodwill vintage typerwriter table, I think the two compliment each other nicely.

My latest free pallet project was another fun edition to the Kitchen.

We have an eclectic mix of treasures throughout our Casa!

So I decided I would make a warm welcoming sign for the kitchen above the window.

I have  done a few MORE free pallet projects scattered about you may want to view

Another one of my favorite projects done in the kitchen last year, was this burlap, mod podged lamp shade

In fact, I had replaced it with a French script one over the winter months, but have since brought it back..

These rice bags WERE free…so yet another great project at no cost! Nothing but my time and thought.

The pillow is also a no sew project, you can view that

HERE

Another fun, quick and easy no sew Kitchen pillow.  This was my first tackle at it..

 Calling all NEWBIES..party on

You may view the tutorial for the diy drop cloth pillow

You may also notice our back window adds for the perfect scenic back drop. Therefore no curtains…

Here is a FALL view…

 Im so excited!

These stools were originally painted and stenciled with roosters, they of course have a new makeover!

The more aged and chippy they are getting the more I like them. I am however, looking for some antique ones, or replicas of old.

These were the original…

 They always come back!

You may see a full tutorial diy stenciled and painted counter stools

That is the beauty of paint…change it up whenever you are looking for a different look!

This Goodwill little table is on it’s second life as well.

It has been moved around several times as well.

$3.00 Goodwill table, is getting its run for the money!

This was the first makeover…

You may view the original Goodwill table makeover

it sure was UGLY!

Our vintage candy jar, fits perfectly on top.

I told ya…I love color and mix it all up!

I bought the toll house tin at a garage sale for 25 cents.  I liked that it had a cow on it.

This pretty vignette is now behind our kitchen sink area.

In the meantime, since this photo, I have changed it up yet again….

I added some vintage flair to this happy corner and decided to hang my very special vintage tea cups.

I do believe the neighbors think I am crazy with stuff hanging from our windows…

Original post

Usually, I have something home made like this stenciled recipe…this was one of my first kitchen home made projects a few years back.

sign Stencil project

Super easy, budget friendly and fun! Diy stenciled kitchen art work

P1170938 768x1024 Transforming a terra cotta pot with Annie Sloan chalk paint {Newbie party started}

This is my most recent, painted terra cotta pot transformation paired up with a new vintage runner I scored at a local antique shop. You may view that full post.

So that’s it {not really, there is plenty more}  for my thrifty, crafty/ and even some free decor in the kitchen.

This was a fun post to put together!

Thanks for stopping for a visit in our Country French, thrifty decor kitchen.

You really do have one of the prettiest kitchens in all of blogland! The colors and the decor all add to the beauty of it. It’s full of light and that window always provides a stunning backdrop.

Although gold wall color has become a bit dated I think it’s a great color choice for the kitchen. Super warm and inviting – and I have it my kitchen going on 5 years now. I thought about repainting but probably would just go back to a gold plus – this kids love it to so it stays. You home looks beautiful Debbie!

Hi Donna…I honestly could not even imagine another color in the kitchen. It is so warm and sunny!~ The color is butter yellow…in some pics it does appear darker, but really it is lighter in person! Glad you like it, and have it as well:)

Thanks Beth…it is one of a kind. Came from South Florida at a Spanish decor shop we just loved! It was the last thing we bought from there, and threw it in the Moving truck. We love it too. Thank you!

I love seeing your kitchen Debbie. Beautiful and warm!

We have custom Hickory cabinets also. We did make a change after choosing the hickory. We had the island painted black and love the contrast. Our kitchen has a definite country feel too.

Debbie, I can see why you fell in love with your kitchen! I’d never want to leave. I love your windows and the view of the beautiful trees. Your cabinets are gorgeous. Your kitchen is infused with your personality and I love it. Style doesn’t need to be classified into neat descriptive terms. You have inspired me with the clock. I saw a couple of hanging clocks at Hobby Lobby and I just may hang one in my kitchen. My kitchen is small so I have to be careful not to add too much stuff.
