Carolina Colonial traditional home tour

By Debbiedoo's Team Published: Apr 5, 2013 · Modified: Apr 19, 2013

Hello and Welcome!

I am Cindy from DWELLINGS-The Heart of Your Home.

As a new blogger, Debbie was one of my first followers and has always been such an encouragement to me.  You truly make great friends here in blog land and I am so blessed to know her!

It is such an honor to be sharing our home with you here at Debbie’s lovely blog.

Thanks so much for the invitation Debbie!

A little about us…

We love the charm of historic homes, especially old Plantations and Georgian-Colonial style homes.  We live in North Carolina and though we will never live in a historic home, when we came to see this one she definitely spoke to us.  Felt like home the moment we entered.

georgian colonial

Sitting on almost two acres, she has the flair of an old Georgian-Colonial and is a bit well-worn, which we love.  We have lived here for almost 12 years and she is still a work in progress.  With much remodeling completed and even more in the works, we look forward to bringing out even more of her charm.

Come on in and I’ll show you around!

FRONT ENTRY

We remodeled the front porch by adding blue stone to the porch floor and Tennessee grey flagstone to the porch front.  The stairs were enlarged with a curved wing wall and beveled glass double doors completed the porch remodel.

As we go from from room to room you may notice that we love the old and well-worn.  We are especially fond of family heirlooms and are thankful to have many of these throughout our home.  I believe a homes decor should come from the heart and tell the story of who we are.  For me, it’s acquiring over time the needs of our home with each piece being special, having tugged at my heart.  I love nice things, but they must be practical, comfortable and keeping the budget in mind I have found that searching and patience go hand in hand.  I love finding that special piece at a steal of a deal!

THE FOYER

The sun light streams in through the new double doors which really brightens up the front part of the house.

THE KITCHEN

We have 4 entries into the kitchen which leaves very little wall space for cabinets.  A kitchen remodel is currently in the planning stages and I am very excited about that…yippee!

THE LAUNDRY ROOM

Toile wallpaper was added to the cabinets as my way of lightening things up a bit!

GUEST BATH

Such a transformation from the previous bath, we were so happy to have this remodel finished!

THE POWDER ROOM

This bath wasn’t slated for a remodel anytime soon but need some spiffing up.  The dilemma was how to update this bathroom taking the green tile into consideration.  This wallpaper worked well with just enough green to tie the two together.

SCREENED PORCH

Well sweet friends, we started our tour on the front porch so I guess we’ll end on the screened porch…

screened porch

There were about six layers of chipping paint on the concrete porch floor when we moved in. Constantly chipping, it was a real mess!  We’ve tiled the porch with charcoal gray slate.  The brick building you see through the screen is the detached garage and just to the right is a courtyard with a small pond and fountain.

We love to garden.  This clematis is growing on the side of the garage…

Mr. Heart and I love spending early mornings on the porch.  We head out with our coffee just as the sun has risen and the song birds begin visiting the feeders.  The perfect way to start our day!

Thank you so much for visiting our home, I hope you enjoyed the tour!

Thanks again Debbie for the invitation to share.

And yet again, this Debbie is glad that THAT Debbie does the Friday home tours. I always love them and always get so inspired with ideas. For this one, I was certain that my favorite room was the dining room until I saw the guest bedroom. Now, it’s a toss up. I love a really well done colonial that sticks to its roots. This one definitely does. I really love it.

Wow Cindy! I thought it was all so pretty. Loved the laundry room (so cute!) until I got to that bathroom. SWOON. Gorgeous, gorgeous. When my house grows up, I’d love to have something like that beauty 😉 Thanks for the tour.

Absolutely beautiful! It’s difficult to say which room I like best ~ 🙂 I think it would be great to sit out on the porch and have coffee though.

Thanks to both of you for sharing!

I am a huge fan of Colonial and Federal homes, furniture, fabrics and paper and this one is chock full of really really great stuff. Love the Chippendale sofas, Damask, Jacobean prints and needlepoint. A lot of really big public spaces…lucky you. But I can see why your HUGE kitchen with so little counter space might make you a wee bit nuts…I have had that situation before. A gorgeous home with lots of classic appointments.
