Wood toy box makeover

By Debbiedoo's Team Published: Feb 13, 2011 · Modified: Nov 9, 2015

Two painting tutorials in a week?
That is just not normal for me.
I told you I was going to work on improving that, and I guess I kept my word so far.
This toy box we have had for about 10 years.  It actually has been sitting in Alex’s closet with a lot of toys in it, that the boys have outgrown and no longer play with.
When I decided to the the Copy cat challenge, I pulled it out of the closet.
Had NO clue as always what I was going to do with it.
I never really have a set plan when I start a project. I kinda do as I go.
I had the paint on hand already.
The only thing I bought was the No trespassing sign.

How to makeover a toy box
Kilz was my friend! Made it much easier to paint.
The nice thing about this piece, is that I did not have to tape it off. The grooves really helped..
As you can see I used a Satin Black color, and the green was by dutch boy, it is called in the Garden.

Then came the fun part of junkin it up…Sanded away the edges..
I also just sanded away the sign to make it look old and weathered.

Jack is loving his new OLD toy box.
Enjoy the day, and as always thank you for stopping by and reading me:) XO!

Debbie, what an interesting color combo. What are the names of the colors? Sometimes the computer monitors make it look a bit different than they actually are. Love your projects!

Hi Donna, the colors are satin black, and In the Garden by dutch boy. It is a unique combo, however, turned out very cool! Thanks for stopping by. XO

Great job, Debbie! The colors are fun together … and the added "No Trespassing" sign is such a fun addition! Your kiddo must love it. It looks great at the foot of his bed, too. You *are* on a roll. Happy Valentine's Day. *Becca*

I loved this trunk when you showed off his room. Thanks for showing the painting steps. I love how you didn't even need to tape because of the grooves. Thanks for sharing.

Debbie, your paint job on that toy box is perfect for the design of the room. You actually made the toy box look old, as if it had been put together using scrap pieces of wood. You created an antique! Seriously, it's perfect!

Holy Crow!! THAT sounds like a party for me!!
I'm at a party right now, and there are some heavy hitters there! And, not one person has visited my blog!

Just have a question first. Does it have to be a new post? Home made? Just new to me? I just moved into this house 2 weeks and 1 day ago!! If you don't mind emailing me with that info, I'd really appreciate it!! (yes, I read the instructions, but I read them for the party I'm at now, and I got it wrong. o_O. I am a bit crazy with this move@!!)
    My email is [email protected]
I really want in for your party!!
    Hopefully, I'l get a visitor!!

    YOU are awesome!

AWESOME Debbie! I'm so glad you did this. I've got a toy box that was my husband's when he was a child. His grandfather made it. We are planning to paint it soon but I have no idea what to do with it yet! Yours looks great!! You have inspired me. 🙂 I also LOVE the wagon in your son's room. What a great idea!
