Traditional ranch style home tour in Myrtle Beach, SC

By Debbiedoo's Team Published: Mar 30, 2012 · Modified: Sep 2, 2012

Greetings, everyone!  My name is Becca, and I’m Debbie’s *ADD* (Attention Decorating Disorder) friend!  I first *met* crafty, thrifty and kind Debbie at RMS and, when I started my blog a few years ago, she was one of the first to welcome me to the *neighborhood!*  Naturally, I was humbled and flattered when she asked if I’d be willing to share my home as part of her “Home Tours” feature!  Thank you, Debbie!

*************************************
Welcome to our humble abode, located right outside of Myrtle Beach (and, yes, my toes were in the sand today)!
When we moved here almost six years ago, I was a big fan of the red, gold and green color palette … and, almost every piece of furniture in our home had either a cherry or walnut stain.  That was, until last year, when I got bit (*badly,* I might add), by the *lighter and brighter* bug.  Everything in our home began to take on a much softer color palette, to include our dining room.
Imagine metallic chocolate walls, cherry stained furniture and red/gold/green striped chair cushions.  Quite a difference from our *new* space, pictured below, showing off its Spring look!

Across from the dining room is our sitting room, which also got the *lighten and brighten* treatment.  Our bookcase used to have a walnut stain … that was until I discovered Annie Sloan’s infamous chalk paint!  From the time I first dipped my paintbrush into her paint, I’ve been addicted!  (And, I just know a few of you are nodding your heads and laughing right this moment because you’ve fallen victim to her dangerously fun paints, as well!)

Now, let’s take a peek into the great room, where the lighter palette continues.  Isn’t it fun how slipcovers can give you a new look, without having to buy new furniture?  My cotton duck covers (from Bed, Bath and Beyond) have held up really well, considering we have a 6 year old, who loves to pretend he’s Spiderman, jumping all over the furniture!
Here is our fireplace all ready for the Easter Bunny.  Our mantel once consisted of a shallow shelf and arched cutout.  What fun it was to design a “new” mantel and have it custom built a few years ago!
Below is another piece that has Annie Sloane’s Old White *stamp* on it.
Come on and we’ll peek into the kitchen.  Yes, I have two-toned cabinets, which I’m sure many aren’t a fan of.  I painted our upper maple cabinets BM White Dove, followed by one coat of Annie Sloane’s Old White.  I wanted to keep the warmth of the maple on the lower cabs for a bit, BUT, am itching to paint them, as well.   I’m either going to paint them Old White or Chateaux Grey (like the island).

In addition to going crazy with my paint brush last year, I also decided to go crazy with a mitre saw and built the three shelves you see below.  Considering a lone cabinet used to be there, I’ve truly enjoyed changing out the accessories on the shelves to suit the season!
I love how the sunlight streams into our breakfast room in the mornings.  (And, for those of you who may be wondering, I painted our dry bar cabinets Annie Sloane’s Chateaux Grey.  I told you, I’m addicted!)
Off the kitchen is our master bedroom, which I recently painted … we also retired the ceiling fan and added a fun drum shade chandie!

I’ll spare you from the master bath, as I’m right in the middle of painting cabinets and an accent piece in there … stay tuned!  Instead, I’ll share our mudroom, which got its own makeover a few years ago, with the addition of the beadboard.  No surprise that my paintbrush is getting ready to invade this room, again, as well!  Can you guess what I’m going to paint ?!

Are you still with me ?!  If so, I’ll show you a peek into our little man’s “suite.”  Here’s his “leeetle” sports-themed bedroom:

Annnnd, his playroom (which used to be a guest room).  Admittedly, it no longer looks like this … we’re in the process of updating it from a “little boy”  playroom to a *big* little boy playroom.  **Sigh**
I’ll spare you from seeing my husband’s office (which also used to be a bedroom), along with the other bathrooms.  Instead, I’ll take you outside … first, to our screened porch.  These pictures are from last year … I can’t wait for the pollen to be DONE so that we may enjoy this space again!  (Oh, um, yes, I painted the fireplace out here Old White, as well.)
And, finally, one side of our patio … I can’t wait to sit by the grill while my hubby cooks something up!  Yummy!
Well, friends, there you have it … our humble abode!  I sincerely thank you for visiting, and, a special thank you, Debbie, for allowing me to be part of your wonderful blog and fun series!
Happy Decorating,
Becca

Wow and Wow! I’d say that is anything but humble! It is gorgeous. Isn’t it funny how all of a sudden you go from deep and dark colors to light and bright? I have been back and forth for years. Of course, we moved a lot and I think sometimes the house just “speaks” to you. Yours has whispered beautiful words to you-you did a great job and I love it! xo Diana

What a fabulous home in one of my MOST favorite towns to visit! I LOVE Myrtle Beach and we go there every chance we get. Love your bedroom and also the wonderful outdoor living spaces. I’m going to walk around my kitchen and see if I can figure out a spot for some small shelves. That’s such a pretty idea! Thanks for the tour! Enjoy your weekend!

Love seeing Becca’s house like this, Debbie! Thank you both for sharing it! A definite difference going from reds and golds to the ighter colors. I have to say one good thing about us moving is that it saved me lots of painting at our old house, because I went that way, too! Thankfully, the condo we moved into has neutral walls in most of the main rooms, so it was easy enough to get the look. I love that you just went for it, Becca, and made it the way you wanted!

Another wonderful home. I think I say it every week, but I really love these home tours. Considering the talented decorators that I see all over the internet, you will never run out of fodder for this, either.

I love her lightness. I’m trying to do that around here more, too. I still like some nonwhite pieces, but I just love the brighter feel.

I think my favorite room in her house is the kitchen.

Very beautifully done! Is that a duvet cover in your master bedroom? If so, would you mind sharing where it can be purchased. If it is custom made, may I trouble you to share the name and source for the fabric? Thank you so much and I enjoyed your tour.
