Experimenting with new craft supplies and paint

By Debbiedoo's Team Published: Feb 21, 2016 · Modified: Feb 4, 2025

Experimenting with new craft supplies and paint

It’s been a long time since I have been the mad scientist.  I sometimes get stuck on doing something I am comfortable with and just go on and on and on with it.

That changed a few weeks ago when I decided to find some new craft paints to experiment with painting on glass.

Back a few years ago, I was into painting on glass with rit dye and mod podge.  Those were indeed beautiful projects that turned out well.  However, they are a process and take some time.  I know a lot of my readers have since tried it, and some projects turned out well, while others failed. I never claimed for it to be a full proof no fail job.  I sort of guarantee full proof more so with my stenciling projects.   I think we are all capable of having a no fail out come with those.

Painting on glass with new craft paints

I started with a small round bowl/vase from the Dollar tree.  I figured if this works out well, I could jump into bigger glass vases.  I really do love making over vases.  In fact, I think my next one will be done with this technique and I will add a bird stencil to it.

Powered pigments

I bought a pack of Lumiere paints, and a pack of powered pigments.

WOW, let me tell you, I am in LOVE with both of these products.   Nothing was mentioned on the packs about painting on glass.   But, that was OK by me, because it was all about the experimentation.

Painting on glass

While painting on the glass, it felt like butter.  For real, after one coat, I let dry for about 30 minutes and went over it again.

Adding powered pigment

Gorgeous shade of blue with a light golden undertone.

Jacquard crafting products

I added the pearl white shimmer to the same bowl as I had the Halo Blue craft paint in and lightly painted the vase with one even coat.

I absolutely LOVE the end result.  So, so much easier than anything I have painted on glass with in the past. Although, painting on glass with chalky paint is pretty simple too.  This just seemed a bit easier to me.

Just a perfect little something for the bathroom vanity.

Sharing is caring:) Don’t forget to pin it, try it, enjoy!

Trying new techniques and craft supplies for the WIN! Experimenting is fun, and if you love to craft and try new things, this is for you.

Looks like your latest experiment has a keeper. Your vase looks lovely. The color is great and the subtle glimmer makes it look so classy. Good job Debbie.

I have so many glass vases that I have saved over the years because of their unique shapes. I’m in charge of a breakfast every 4 months at the small college where I work. This would be a great way to use some of those vases and be able to change them up when I reuse them.

Looks like this experiment was a complete success! Love that blue! I’m seeing blues swing back into fashion more and more and as it’s my favorite color, that makes me happy. Thanks, Debbie!

Very cute idea, may have to borrow it. I like that price of those luminere paints! Nice colors in the pack too. I am curious if you mix anything with the powdered paints or just use it dry? The blue is very pretty and right on trend this year. Love it!
