How to make White Castle burgers

By Debbiedoo's Team Published: Mar 1, 2015 · Modified: Oct 21, 2021

How to make white castle burgers! I figured it has been a while since I have shared a recipe.

Lately, our dinners have been quick and easy and not even recipe worthy.  I mean if you want to call boiling some bratwurst in beer and sauerkraut a recipe..

or perhaps throwing some fresh roast beef in Au jus sauce and having roast beef sandwiches.  All good btw and the kids loved them.  However, they require no recipe.

These White Castle burgers on the other hand do.

Today I asked a friend: “what’s for dinner”?  “What should I make”?  The two dinners I just mentioned were also from friends suggestions.  I get so tired of making the same ole same ole.  I sure love it when Mike is off and wants to cook.  He made a killer pot roast I will share with you soon.  I just have to get him to sit down and share the step by steps.

copy cat white castle recipeUntil I was around 11 years old I grew up in New Jersey.  White Castle was huge there and I always  loved it.  It was a treat when you got to go eat at White Castle.

Everytime we are back in Jersey visiting you can bet a White Castle is on our list of go to places.  We usually eat so many we are stuffed for the rest of the day.  That’s the problem, these little things are deceiving, and you can’t just eat one.

Some simple ingredients. I will leave the details in my recipe card below.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs of ground beef. Not too lean 80/20 is best but I used a bit leaner to be honest.
  • Seasoned salt
  • Onion flakes
  • cheese
  • pickles
  • 2 packages of dinner rolls.I actually found slider rolls from Pepperidge farms.

Instructions

  • First spray the bottom of your 9 x13 pan with pam. Then add onion flakes to liking. I coated the entire bottom very well and then some. Take your ground beef and lightly spread while smashing down over the onion flakes to cover your entire pan. Season the top with your seasoning. Just one sprinkle evenly all over ground beef. Bake at 400 for about 20 minutes. Then take it out, and add six slices of cheese and put back in oven to melt about 5 minutes. Take out and cut in 24 pieces. 6 rows of 4 should do it. Serve with pickles and ketchup for the traditional White castle style. Enjoy!

My husband and I were just talking about these tonight! I grew up in Michigan and we had White Castle. He didn’t where he grew up but was stationed in Detroit when he was in the Coast Guard and loved to go there. We are trying these soon!
