Can’t sew? No worries

By Debbiedoo's Team Published: Oct 2, 2014 · Modified: Sep 1, 2019

Hi there everyone!

I don’t sew..you probably figured that out by now based on my hot glue pillows and other no sew projects.

Today, I am sharing how to add length to your drapes without sewing.

I discovered the best product ever.  You don’t even need an iron.

You can hem anything, add trim, and in my case add length to drapes.

No sew curtains

So let me start with the basics.

No sew curtains

I bought these pretty drapes from Home goods.  A new Home good just opened up literally 10 minutes from home.  It’s going to be trouble, I can feel it.

Fabric fuse peel and stick

I bought this peel n stick from Walmart months ago.  I never used it before and I was curious on how it worked.

Now was the time to try it.

No Sew curtain hack

You can see how long and tall these windows are.  A traditional 84 inch comes down to the window sil.  I knew I needed at least 12 more inches added to come to the ground.

No sewing required to add length to drapes

So I measured first and cut the brown panels about twelve inches long.  I adhered the peel n stick across the bottom of the other panel and removed the top strip.

That left me with a clear adhesive.

No sew hemming length to drapes

I placed my cut brown panel making sure that the hem line on the bottom was not backwards and showing the stitching.

Home Good curtain hack

There you go!

Would you ever know the difference?

Now I do have to take the steamer and get some of these wrinkles out.

Curtains in bedroom

I’m so happy with the turn out.  Our bedroom is getting a little Fall/Winter makeover.  It’s been years since I bought new panels.  Because they are so expensive for longer ones.  The total cost for both windows was less than $50.00.  I had some reward dollars too so in essence it cost me around $30.00.:)

Thanks so much for stopping over today.  If you are not a regular, I sure would love to see you back again.

Had to have a candle going while I worked in here today.  I adore these  crackling wick woodwick candles.  They last forever and smell oh so good!

Oh wow…and I thought I had it made with Stitch Witchery – no iron either? Score!!!!! Yeah…I’m pretty sure you’re gonna need a credit card set aside for Homegoods purchases alone. =/

What a great invention, Debbie! I do sew, but I’m all for anything quick and easy and certainly seems to be both. The drapes look great, too. I’m the same way. I would like to switch out drapes in the master (and other rooms) with the seasons, but those I’ve brought with me from the old house don’t work here and I’m not looking to spend a couple of hundred dollars per window. So, I’m living with what I bought when we moved and will watch for sales.

Oh my word! I’m so glad I stumbled onto your blog post! My 16 month old decided to pull two pieces off our blinds so now there’s a gaping hole. And because I can’t sew nor do I want to spend money on expensive drapes/curtains (because the 16 month old is just going to ruin it!), I’m going to use a flat sheet temporarily but my issue (before I ran into your blog) was that the sheets aren’t long enough! Thank you, thank you!!!! I’m going to try your idea out!!

What a brilliant idea! I sew but I am definitely going to try this. My husband and I are building a new home and I shudder every time I think about the cost of buying 108 inch drapes for all of those windows. This will reduce my cost significantly. I can’t believe how well your drapes turned out.

Thankyou so much Debbie for this brilliant idea! I can sew, but just haven’t had the time to add length to my new curtains ( a bolster case which I unpicked a few months ago! ) which are about 15 ” too short for my bedroom window. I have a matching duvet cover and pillowcases, but no longer use the bolster cover and thought it would make a nice curtain. I’ll go right now and finish them off with that double sided tape and it will be done in a jiffy!

Hi, I loved your article on no sew curtains to add lenghth. I am now ordering my 84″ panels to make into 95″. SO very excited. My question to you is where in the world did you get your hanging light fixture? I adore it? Please let me know. Its so unique. I am looking for something similar even if it is has to be adapted from original version lol. Thank you again..

Thank you for the great idea. I am not going to unstitch the narrow hem on my Ikea drapes. Just stick some fabric under them and I know that the fabric will look straight No one is going to get on their knees to examine the bottom of my drapes. Love this idea.
