Summer color changes!

By Debbiedoo's Team Published: Jun 8, 2011 · Modified: Feb 4, 2025

As I am looking around the house as to what to freshen up for Summer next….
I have all this chalk paint left over and thought what can I paint that Mike would not  mind? He would mind any of the family room woods, Guys have a thing for wood??
I thought I would brighten some accessories  up in our Family room.
Sometimes, the simplest things can lighten and brighten a room.
I have some chalk paint left over, and there is no way I am wasting a drop of that stuff.
Here is the before look:
Great colors for Fall and Winter time. Now onto summer….

Cream color Annie Sloan Chalk paint
 this is the before
This piece was heavy and very dark, not the easiest piece to hand paint.

And this was a recent score from Pier I…
I quickly got tired of all these colors.
Quick and easy fix for sure!

Looks all fresh and cool now. I never think to paint my metal stuff. Good idea, that bowl looks great distressed a little. Will Mike notice though? My husband goes weeks before he notices that I changed something.

haha…you are a painting diva! That is good that you left some of your hubby's favorite wood pieces and still get a great change by painting those accessories :o) The "new" blue redo on the tray is pretty, but I do aslo like those multi colored slats in the tray.

I have been wanting to try Chalk Paint for a while now and today I stopped in at the only place I can find that carries it. They were closed with nothing posted on the door regarding their hours or anything. Grrrr….. guess I'll have to wait a little while longer. Your changes look amazing. Hope I don't have to wait too long to make some changes around here!

I say bring on the paint! What's with guys and wood? Is it a genetic thing? Even if the wood is ugly they can't bare to see if covered. I love the chalkpaint too, I just finished a few pieces and am looking around to see what else I can use it on!

My hubby has that same thing for wood. Makes me CRAZY. What's wrong with a little paint I say.

Why haven't I thought of this? I think I need to take one day and decide to not work on a single project but spend the day really looking at the house and see what needs to be and can be 'refreshed' for summer . . . before summer is OVER!

Hi Deb- It's always nice to make things look more summery and fresh- this does the trick very well! I have finally found chalk paint locally and will be picking it up on Monday. Have a project in mind- hope I can find the time to start it! LOL
Fun trip with your gal pal- funny trying to get a good family pic. I am the one who always ruins ours. I am not photogenic, at all. Fake smile, weird eyes, fat cheeks, saggy neck, bad hair…. I could go on and on!
Stay cool- it's hot and humid here! Where did spring go? Or did we even have one?
