Crafting with dollar tree bottles

By Debbiedoo's Team Published: May 8, 2016 · Modified: Feb 4, 2025

Hi there friends!

A few days ago I took my Facebook friends along with me to the Dollar tree.  We walked up and down the aisles and came up with some craft ideas.  I wanted this to be a joint venture, and also have you all see the Dollar tree through my eyes.

It was a lot of fun, even if people were staring at me wondering what in the world I was doing, and why I was talking into my phone HA!~ Let’s just say, I ignored them and stayed focused on my task at hand.

Painted dollar tree bottle craft project with chalky paint

Today I am sharing crafting with dollar tree bottles.

Later on that evening I also went Facebook live and shared the step by step tutorial on how I did these decorative bottles.

How to make decorative cute bottles from dollar tree

As you can see these bottles were quite pretty and detailed.  I knew I would use chalky paint to paint them, as that is my favorite paint to use when crafting on glass.

Clear decorative dollar tree bottles

Essentially, I painted the bottles with about two coats of chalky paint letting the paint dry in between time.

Once the paint was dry, I then took a stencil I had on hand and used the 3m tape to adhere it to the bottle, then stenciled my little rooster to the bottle.  Dip, dab, dop..That’s my explanation for stenciling.  Less is more, and never over saturate your sponge otherwise you have bleed through.

Step by step crafting with dollar tree bottles, painting and stenciling

For the green bottle I had these little self adhesive inspiration words and used those.  I love that they are self adhesive.  You simply peel and stick.

Again, using a small dabber or small sponge brush, dip, dab, dop:)

Both bottles got a little embellishing.  This one, a burlap flower from the dollar tree and a little twine.

Also, on the blue bottle I used a clear wax applied lightly with a paper towel to get a smooth finish.  I did not use a wax on the green bottle.  Both bottles I lightly sanded to get the rustic weathered look.

The blue rooster bottle has an old vintage wine opener tied around with twine.

Dollar decorative bottle craft and gift ideas

So many clever ways to decorate and embellish a simply plain, plain no more glass bottle from the dollar tree!

Reader of mine sent me a picture of her cute creations.

And another reader shares a vintage style dollar tree bottle! WOW:)

And you don’t always have to paint your bottles as another reader shared with me her creations!

I love how you did those bottles. Some of the things you show from dollar store, I can never find in my dollar store It is always a disappointment.
But anyway, I just love those, great idea.

Thrift stores and Deals are where I have the most luck finding nice inexpensive bottles.

What a unique idea! I liked the bottles w/out paint, but they are a lot more interesting with it. What would you use them for? Could they be vases for a rose or small bunch of field flowers? Could you put anything edible in the or would it not be a good idea to pour something like that over the painted lip of the bottle? Interesting project, anyway, Debbie! Thanks for sharing it.

I just use them for cute decoration. I suppose if you didn’t paint the top of it you could use something like olive oil or vinegar in them. Also, if you find a nozzle for the top that would be a great idea. I just like the thrill of the transformation.
