How to make perfect hard boiled eggs in the oven

By Debbiedoo's Team Published: Jun 11, 2014 · Modified: Mar 20, 2016

Hello there!
yes, you read the title correctly.

How to make perfect hard boiled eggs in the oven.

Game on!!

This truly is a life changing experience for our family.

I know that sounds a bit dramatic, but let me tell you…

for years, forever, I have never been able to master a hard boiled egg.

We love hard boiled eggs and now that the boys are on summer break they pretty much eat from morning, noon and night.

I actually saw this trick posted on a friends facebook wall.

I was in bed with my ipad ready to nod off and I saw this on a thread. I was hoping when I woke up I would remember the how to…

325 for 25 minutes.

So the next morning,

I got out my muffin tin and placed my eggs inside the tin as shown.

Preheated the oven temp to 325 degrees

and set the timer for 25 minutes

After the timer went off I removed them from the oven and placed the eggs gently in a bowl of cold water with ice cubes for about ten minutes.

Look how nicely they peeled.  THIS is a never for me.  Sometimes my finger nails would hurt from trying to peel the egg shell off.

This was a breeze.

Perfection!

The only thing I noticed was some brown spots on the white of the egg.  Next time I think I would put a cupcake liner down.  The egg probably got slightly scorched.  It did not effect the taste though.

Now off to make the perfect egg salad.

Hope you try this…I am so happy and so are the boys.  Jack has told me, I was the worse hard boiled egg maker

ever!

He couldn’t understand how I just could never get it right.

I’ve been baking my eggs for about a month now and will not go back to boiling them. The yolk has a very light and fluffy texture. My husband loves the eggs done this way, too. Reduce your cooking time from 25 minutes to 20 minutes and your brown spots should go away. ….dance like no one is watching…

This sounds like it could really make this girl happy! I’ve tried every kind of way to have the shell come off easy and now I will give this a try. Thanks for sharing!

Cool! My perfect, no fail recipe for hard boiled eggs is:

Place eggs in a pan of cold water. Turn burner on high. As soon as the water comes to a boil, turn burner off, remove pan from heat and cover for 10 minutes. That’s right….as soon as it comes to a boil cover and turn off the burner. Let sit in covered pan for 10 minutes. Then drain and place in ice water till cooled. Perfect cooked eggs. No gray/green circle around the yolk….and they peel great!

This is how I do my eggs now too. I never had luck with any other way either. One thing I did read was that you can use those little makeup remover cotton pads to put under the eggs to stop the brown scorch marks. I’m trying this tomorrow as it’s time to make more baked/boiled eggs! 😉

Had to tell you that I tried this this morning. Wanted to make some chicken salad so gave the old boiled eggs swirl in the over. WORKED like a charm! Noticed my eggs had a few brownish spots on them but no problem at all! Love this idea and have already shared it with my daughters! Thanks again! Hugs and blessings, Cindy

How clever! I’ve never tried this before. Eggs never peel easily for me, either, so I really should try this.

I have seen this before but have never tried it. Well, now that DebbieDoo has given it her stamp of approval, I’m definitely going to try it! I have heard from someone who raised chickens for eggs, that the fresher the egg, the harder they are to peel. Haven’t been on a chicken farm in over fifty years and don’t care to return, so I have no idea if this is true.

Good Morning Debbie. I tried the eggs today and they turned out perfect! I used the cupcake liners and had two little dots on the one egg I tried, but that was nothing. 🙂
Thanks for the recipe. So easy!!

This is an Alton Brown recipe that I have been using for the last two years. I have not used muffin tin but place them directly on the rack which makes it easy to back 48 at a time. Big family and deviled eggs are at every family gathering! Took me 66 years to find this and will never go back!

I used to boil eggs, but no more. I now STEAM eggs. 6 for 13 minutes or 12 for 16 minutes. Into the ice water for 10 minutes and peel. Perfect peel every time. I am going to try the baking method the next time while it is still cold outside and then back to steaming for warm weather. No need to have a hot oven in the house.

Gosh, not sure..everyone else who has tried it, they worked like a charm. Maybe next time cook 5 minutes longer? Could depend on your oven too. I’m sorry, that is very unusual.

Hi Debbie, I will never boil another egg! They are delicious and the eggs are much friendlier when peeling. Perhaps egg membranes are thicker these days and that is why they don’t peel well.
I have a dozen eggs baking in the oven as I speak!
    Thank you for sharing.
