How to make your own bird feeder

By Debbiedoo's Team Published: Mar 4, 2014 · Modified: Mar 18, 2015

Hey there everyone!

Tweet tweet!

Those are the sweet, sweet sounds I have been hearing every morning outside our bedroom window.

I think they are hungry, it’s been a long winter.

So I decided, I would show you how to make your own bird feeder like I just did, so you too can make your birds happy!

This was a cute surprise.  I didn’t realize the bottom of the can said Seasoned Southern style.

How fitting for a bird and for living in the South!

Let’s start with the basics

Can

Mod podge

Popsicle stick

and fabric swatches.

Twine rope to hang

I have a bunch of the fabric swatches left over from the Baby shower banner I made last year.

I found a pack of them at Walmart for just a few bucks.

I like to mod podge in sections as you can see.  Paint the mod podge on the can

adhere the swatch, it just so happend to be the perfect size, with just a tad of trimming to be done on the bottom.

Paint over the fabric

let dry

Stencil if you so happen to choose

These individual stencils are so user friendly, just peel, stick and paint with craft paint of choice.

I then lightly sprayed the can with polyurethane seeing it will be outside.

Fill with birdseed and you have a one of a kind

bird feeder.

Super cute and makes for a happy bird.

Too cute for words – love the popsicle stick holder !
I’m really embarrassed to admit this but I’ve never mod podged a thing in my life –
Keep meaning to – and end up painting a dresser instead – HAVE to start sometime!

    Debbie,
I just Love this !! You made it very easy for someone on a budget
to make a really cute bird feeder. And if they don’t have swatches
they can take one of their husband’s shirts and use that just cut into
appropriate size and wala I Love it !!!
    Thank You
