French scripted buffet makeover

By Debbiedoo's Team Published: Jul 23, 2014 · Modified: May 26, 2025

Hi everyone! It’s Shanna from Restoration Redoux here for my monthly visit!

Today I am sharing a French scripted buffet makeover.

Buffet makeover with silk plaster paint

I hope you all are having a great summer! It seems like there must be something in the water over in my neck of the woods because I am doing custom nursery projects out the ying yang! (Note to self: Do NOT drink the water).

My 16 year old has been babysitting and dog sitting all summer. She quickly realized that babysitting is hard work, and she feels that she should be making much more per hour. She thinks dog sitting is much easier, and that she is not having children … only dogs and pigmy goats.

Oh, and she is also trying to talk me into a teacup pig. Currently, we have 3 dogs and a cat, which I believe technically makes our home a zoo. It is constant chaos with someone always barking, wrestling, or throwing up. She is determined though, and she even made me a powerpoint presentation on all of the reasons why she should have a teacup pig: they can swim, be potty trained, and they don’t shed or bark. Did you also know that they can live up to 12-15 years? Do you know how many years she will have left living in my house? Two. So guess who would be taking care of a pig alone when she goes off to school?

My hubby is even on board with this idea! So you can guess who the bad guy is!

Has your family ever tried to talk you into a pet you know that you will be the one taking care of it?

Speaking of taking care of something, the previous owners of this cabinet did not take care of it. In fact, it looks like it came out of barn.

It was scratched up and filthy.

Before pic

I cleaned it up and painted the whole piece in Grey Silk Plaster Paint.

I then painted the inside and the inserts with Sweet Cream Plaster Paint.

Next, I distressed the whole piece and stenciled the ivory inserts with a french script.

Finally, I coated the entire piece with clear wax and buffed it off.

Very pretty makeover for the buffet! My daughter sounds a lot like yours. We are going thru the same discussion right now, except it’s about goats! And yes, I completely get it that I will be the one milking the goat every morning. No matter how many times she promises, I know in the end it will end up being me! I’m sticking to my guns and voting NO GOAT … LOL

Thank you Kathy! Oh you know you will have to take care of that goat! My daughter promised when we got out second dog that she would be the one walking it and taking it out all of the time. Never happened. Then the same promises with the 3rd dog. Nope. Momma has enough on her plate without adding a pig. Stand strong Kathy!

Just beautiful! I’ve never heard of this paint…of course, I’ve not been online for awhile either. How does it compare to other brands? You have a real talent and vision!

Just say NO! 🙂 Otherwise, you will have one more animal to care for.

Thanks Pat! Plaster Paint and chalk paint are very similar in my opinion. It adheres to anything just like chalk paint so you don’t have to sand which I love. It distresses easily and instead of sealing with a poly you seal it with wax just like with chalk paint. You can order it online or you can find a retailer near you on their website http://www.theplasterpaintco.com/. Don’t worry I’m holding firm on the pig!

Hi Shanna- Love this buffet. You sure ‘cuten’ed it up’!
Like that storage too. I need to check into some scripted stencils. They’d be cute on lots of things… doors, walls, curtains…etc.
    You’re a great hostess Debbie… !
    had fun- Pat
