Dump it

By Debbiedoo's Team Published: Oct 26, 2014 · Modified: Feb 2, 2025

Apple Dump cake

Hi there everyone! Just when you thought the dump cakes were over…. I had to go ahead and make an apple dump cake recipe. It’s the season for all things Apple.  Here are some dump cakes I have made in the past:

NOTE:  As with all dump cakes these are not to be dumped upside down.  They are scooper cakes:)

Cherry pineapple dump cake

Lemon raspberry dump cake

Peach crisp Bisquick dump cake

Blueberry/Pineapple dump cake

I whipped this Apple dump cake up to for a party we were attending.

Apple dump cake

I was not able to get an after shot because at that point I was at the party and it went too fast.  Besides, I really don’t whip out my camera or phone every chance I get, believe it or NOT!

Bad blogger..

How to make an apple dump cake

As per usual only a few ingredients.

I had a taster tell me, that he doesn’t even care for Apple pie but this was “dynamite” I quote him:)

At this point, I can’t even pick a favorite dump cake. I loved them all.

My family actually loved the apple one best though if they had to pick just one:)

Please note you can either use a Pyrex or a bundt pan. Either way, it’s not a “pretty cake”. You are scooping, topping and serving. I prefer pyrex, however for the party and bringing it warm, the bundt pan looked nice too.

Thanks for stopping over today.  If you are not a regular, I sure would love to see you back again.

I am also very excited to share my new stencil line with you.

Thank you for your visit today!

Apple Dump cake

Print Recipe Pin Recipe

Ingredients

  • I box of yellow cake mix
  • 2 cans of Apple pie filling
  • Chopped Walnuts
  • 1 stick of butter
  • cinnamon
  • Apple spice

Instructions

  • I like to use a bundt pan when making my dump cakes. Take your Apple pie filling and add to the bottom of a sprayed with Pam (pan of choice).
  • Sprinkle cinnamon lightly on top of pie filling.
  • Take your yellow cake mix and sprinkle evenly over the pie filling. Make sure you have it nice and even.
  • Cut up one stick of butter pats and place around combination. Sprinkle lightly some apple spice {this is optional} Top with walnuts. You can use as many as your taste buds like. I just sprinkle a handful. Bake at 350 for 45-50 minutes. Ovens vary. You will know when it is done when the top is lightly browned. ENJOY!

Notes

This is a scooper cake. You do NOT try to turn upside down or put on a cake plate. Scoop and serve with ice cream, or whip cream if desired.

I’ve done Sonny’s dump cake with cherry pie filling and gluten free cake mix, Debbie. It’s always gone over well. I will have to try the apple. I’ll bet it smells great!

I made a dumb cake the other day. I was so disappointed it called for a 9 cup Bundt pan. I only have a 12 cup pan. What size Bundt pan do I need for your cake? I loved the dumb cakes especially when others make them. But the are usually in 9×12 pan, Bundt pans make them look fancier especially if they have glaze dripping down them.

Dawn, I have made in crackpot several times and it is delicious. Only difference was using spice cake instead yellow cake and spices.

I love the cherry dump cake. It’s just like my Moms, except we do it in a 9×13 pan. I would have loved to try the Oreo dessert with the.pumpkin spice Oreos, but they sold out in mid October where I live.

It’s a scooper, so you just scoop it out onto the plate per piece and you can add some whip cream on it if you like.

Not sure how that would work honestly. Maybe do half and half. The syrup in the apples is what helps cook the cake as well.

I have a lot of homemade apple pie filling in quart jars. I’m wondering if one quart jar would be close to the amount of 2 cans of pie filling? What do you think? I would want to not have enough, but I think two quarts would be too much!

I made the apple dump cake in the bunt pan for Easter – tomorrow. Now that it’s baked, Does anyone know if you’re suppose to invert it onto a cake plate or cut & serve it from the pan? I’m afraid of what will happen to the cake if I try to invert it so I guess I’ll leave it in the pan. If I was suppose to invert it on to a plate, how long should it cool before doing that? It smells wonderful & I’m sure is going to taste great, I just would have liked to invert it and make a prettier presentation for the table. Any suggestions anyone?

Hi Deb I have a Problem with your Apple Dump Cake. The recipe doesn’t till you how to get it out of the pan.
Do you let it set for a while?
Do you flip in on to a Plate? I can’t see how you can use a wire rack it has a lot of gooey stuff at the top looks like if you flip it, it may fall apart.
Just not sure how to handle this one babe.

Keep it in the pan and just put foil over it. You can keep it in the fridge and before you serve it, scoop it and nook it for a few seconds. It tastes best warm. Enjoy. Remember this is a dump cake, you are not reverting it out of the pan. Just scooping and serving.
