A boy, his dog Dixie! and a random act of Kindness out here in BLOGLAND!~

By Debbiedoo's Team Published: Jul 22, 2012 · Modified: Feb 4, 2025

Happy Saturday to you all!~

Before I get started, I  want to mention if you are Facebook you may have seen, my friend Shannon from Fox Hollow cottage has an auction up right now.

It all started with her little pool noodle wreath that was never claimed in a giveaway.

She decided to auction it off and have all the proceeds go to the family and loved ones from the Colorado shooting tragedy.

To say it has been overwhelming and overflowing with LOVE is an understatement.

Donations of all kinds..etsy shops, gift cards, jewelery, money, and a cute little authentic coach bag thrown in by me. The auction list keeps growing.

It is a bit overwhelming, the kindness and support out there.

You may visit Shannon’s blog for more details.

You have until Sunday evening to get in on this.

Now, let me share a story about a boy and his dog.

This post is somewhat timely, considering our little Lucy dog had to have a little emergency surgery yesterday.

Her poor little pinky nail got caught in the kitchen rug, and let’s just say, it was a bloody mess.

Jack, my youngest was torn up about it.  He thought she would have to be put down and he was just beside himself.

Much to his relief, a little minor surgery, some pain meds, and lots of love will get our little Lucy through it all.

While on our beach weekend in Edisto, SC, although we have many stories to tell. Some we can repeat and some perhaps will stay there.

This one, I will gladly share.

We had gorgeous weather for the three days while visiting.

The beach was peaceful, and very quiet and not tourist like at all.

If you are looking to get away from it all. Edisto, is where it’s at.

Later in the afternoons, the tide would roll in.

At that point of the day, we did not really go in the water anymore.

But believe me, up until that point, we were all riding waves and having a ball.

In fact, my boys were shocked to hear I went in the water.  I am usually a chicken and afraid of Sharks.

One afternoon, the girls actually thought they saw a shark..talk about RUNNING out of the water fast.

Turns out they were Dolphins:)

Talk about a gourmet breakfast.  YES, gourmet, made by my friend Laurian.  If you could have seen this teeny tiny kitchen she whipped this out of, you would have been amazed.

Paula Deen has nothing on her…I have said that before.

Of course a few of us, NOT me, decided it would be refreshing and a nice idea to do some YOGA on the beach.

After all, we had a delicious breakfast to work off.

The five of us truly bonded.  We laughed so hard, it hurt.

Some of us had no voices when we came back home to reality.

But it was this story, this moment, that we all sat back and watched the boy and his dog.

Meet Dixie and the BOY!

At this later point in the day is when it was dangerous to go in the water.

You see this little boy, seemed as though he was all alone.

We all watched and wondered where his Parents were…

why it was just he and his dog.

This little boy, knew we were watching him.  He would turn around to us, talk, and say things like.

“My Daddy said I can’t go in the ocean”

But there was no Daddy around.

Dixie too, kept looking back at us, concerned, worried, something did not feel right.

He never left the boy, hovered around him constantly.

The boy played with much delight.  He so much reminded me of Jack when he was that age.

Even did a little Karate show for us.

It was about at this point, we all realized the boy and his dog Dixie were not alone.

Boys teenage sister and friend were far out in the Ocean, paying no mind to little brother and Dixie.

It was the sweetest little scene to watch.

A boy and his best friend!

Us gals sure knew how to have fun!

I leave you with this quote of the weekend…

very, very funny and said in  the Most Southern tone, hick kind of voice you can imagine!

You had to be there!

“There are two kinds of people in this World….

People who see you drivin off a cliff and wave…and people who say “wait! I’ll come with you!”…..Bye

What a great post — how blessed you are to be able to spend time like this with your dear friends . . . and I would have been giving those teenage girls a tongue lashing — LOL. That’s why my hubby is around, to keep me from saying things I SHOULDN’T!

OMG, I thought you were going to say the boy went in and started having trouble and his dog rescued him. I thought this was a nail biter, but no. Looks like y’all had so much fun.

I know, I thought it would be a cliff hanger. God for bid, so grateful that was not the story. It sure could have been though. Sissie paying no mind to him. His dog was genuinely concerned, it was an amazing site.

Loved the story about the boy and his dog and that he was minding his Dad as to not go in the water.

What a wonderful looking beach and time. I for one would never leave my kid that age alone with instructions not to go in as it just takes a second. I would have been watching him like you. Glad you had a good time. Breaks are always so much fun.

Oh……………it looks like you had a blast with your friends at the beach! We just got back ourselves, and I miss the ocean today! We came back to rain and storms. Yuck! I am impressed with that breakfast your friend made. I know what you mean about tiny kitchens in vacation condo’s! That beach looked nice too.

Hi Debbie Dear! I’ve just loved you sharing your weekend with us! Looks like you had such a great time – just look at those pretty smiles. Isn’t that something about the little boy and his dog. Being a grandmother, I would have probably opened my big fat mouth and said something to his sister. God is always watching over the little ones – he had all of you ladies looking after him. 🙂
    be a sweetie,
    shelia 😉
